Shredder hires Metal Mouth, a follower in Fortnite.

The second phase of the Fortnite crossover event with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is here, and ready to kick some shell. The second phase is a smidge more challenging than the first, forcing you to rely on hired help to do damage - a prospect that is often unreliable at best. Still, you need to get that Ooze, so let's jump into it.

This guide only covers the quests associated with the second phase of the Cowabunga mini-event. If you want more details regarding how the event works as a whole, check out the guide for the first phase.

Phase 2: Gear Up!

Hire a character

There are a bunch of friendly NPCs scattered throughout the map in this season of Fortnite, and you can hire a number of them to follow your character and provide help in combat situations. The ones whom you can hire are as follows:
  • Contract Giller, at the port to the north of Classy Courts
  • Dara, at Lil' Villa, on the east side of the river winding past Fencing Fields
  • Mecha Team Leader, at a train station southeast of Ritzy Riviera
  • Metal Mouth, at a building between Reckless Railways and Classy Courts
  • Snow Striker, in the moutains south of Grand Glacier
  • Solid Snake, on the island north of Lavish Lair
  • Steelsight, on the roof of Rebel's Roost
  • Sun Tan Specialist, at Pleasant Piazza
Hiring a character costs 200 or 250 gold, so make sure you have a decent amount on you. Hire a character to receive 400 Ooze.

Shredder runs around with Mecha Team Leader, a follower in Fortnite.

Have a hired follower eliminate an opponent

This quest dovetails off the last one, and is a bit trickier. Hired followers are best used as distractions, and they're not great at defeating opponents - especially when you're fighting a human. There are three ways to maximize the chances that your follower will defeat an opponent:
  • Make sure you're fighting a bot. Bots move slowly, have poor aim, and just act a bit dim in general.
  • Get rid of the opponent's shields yourself. Once you start seeing damage numbers that look white, stop firing and let your follower take over.
  • Hire someone with grenade weapons. Hired followers do the most damage by far when they hurl explosives. Metal Mouth, the NPC found between Classy Courts and Reckless Railways, is especially useful in this regard.
Let your follower eliminate an opponent to receive 300 Ooze.

Shredder targets a supply drone in Fortnite.

Collect weapons from supply drones in Hot Spots

Every time you begin a new match of Fortnite you'll see one or more locations on that map with a golden name. These are Hot Spots, and they're spawning points for supply drones. Supply drones fly slowly over the Hot Spot, and if you shoot one down it'll drop weapons, utility items, and ammo. You need to collect weapons from these drones. Pretty simple.

Collect three weapons from supply drones in Hot Spots to receive 400 Ooze. Note that you must defeat drones in Hot Spots, not at other places where they might appear.

Shredder gets shot at while inspecting a Mending Machine in Fortnite.

Spend bars at Mending Machines

Vending machines are pretty common fixtures of named and unnamed locations in this season of Fortnite, and some of them are Mending Machines where you can buy restorative items, as well as straight-up healing services. Mending Machines are most safely approached at train stations, though you'll see them all over the map.

Spend 200 bars at Mending Machines to receive 300 Ooze. It doesn't matter what you buy, just buy something.

Crack opponent's shields

Most opponents have shields when you get into a fight with them, which includes the built-up extra 50 shield points received when in the air. All you need to do to complete this quest is crack opponent's shields by inflicting damage. You'll know you've succeeded when you hear a smashing noise.

Crack opponent's shields ten times to receive 300 Ooze.

Damage opponents with Ninja Turtle Weapons

The Cowabunga event brings with it the weapons of the four Ninja Turtles. You can use them to attack enemies, or to perform a bit of fast traveling through the air. In this case you need to use the flailing, damaging function of the four weapons to complete the quest. There are two ways to acquire these weapons:
  • Buy them at a special vending machine (these appear in named locations across the map, such as Ritzy Riviera)
  • Grab them from a Ninja Turtle Supply Drop, typically visible from a long way off as they fall slowly down from the sky
Inflict 150 damage on opponents with Nina Turtle Weapons to receive 300 Ooze.

Shredder does some dancing in Fortnite.

Emote in different matches

The easiest of this phase's quests. Simply perform an emote in different matches, more or less immediately after you land. You don't need to see the whole thing, just dance or gesture once. Emote in three different matches to receive 300 Ooze.

Shredder spins wildly in the air in Fortnite.

Spin degrees while airborne and on foot

This quest is a bit weird. Whenever you leap into the air you can rotate the camera a bit (right control stick or mouse) to look around before landing, and every time you do that it adds a few degrees worth of points to your total. You need to do that a lot to complete this quest. You must be on foot to satisfy the requirement, so you may want to bring along Flowberry Fizz or some Flowberries to give yourself extra air time. Either way, it'll take a little while - and a lot of jumping.

Spin 7,200 total degrees while airborne and on foot to receive 300 Ooze. Be careful doing this one, as it can make you a bit nauseous if you spin too many times in one jump.
