Part 15: Lyton and Lyton Shrine

Main Walkthrough

Thanks to Alex and his Ocarina - as well as some far-off support - the team have gained access to the Blue Dragon Shrine. The enemies in the shrine tend to be weak to Fire attacks, making this the ideal time to equip Alex with the Flame Sword that you (hopefully) picked up in the Red Dragon Cave. If not, the Great Sword you can buy in Meryod will do. Mia and Nash get a lot of use in here thanks to their Fire and Thunder spells, so you may also want to pick up some Star Lights before entering.

Blue Dragon Shrine

Enemies

  • Aqua Genie - 263 HP -  - Weak to Fire, Thunder, resists Ice
  • Gelatin - 283 HP - Can Poison targets - Weak to Fire, Thunder, Sword, resists Ice
  • Razor Wolf - 339 HP - Can hit every character - Weak to Fire, resists Ice
  • Water Elemental - 241 HP - Can Mute targets - Weak to Fire, Thunder, Sword, resists Ice
The shrine has a simple, but somewhat frustrating, gimmick. As you make your way through this area you'll come across pools of water that you can enter. If you enter the correct pools you'll be shunted to the next area of the shrine. If you enter the wrong pools you'll instead get into a random battle. There's no obvious difference between the transport and combat pools, so you'll just need to test them until you find your way through the shrine.

(Or consult this guide. Yep, that works.)

Assuming you don't want to fumble your way through the dungeon, follow these steps to reach the end:
  • Enter the only pool in the entry chamber
  • Enter the right pool in the second chamber
  • Run west to the end of the third chamber to find a chest containing an Angel's Tear
  • Enter the pool closest to the Angel's Tear chest in the third chamber
  • Head north of the entrance pool in the fourth chamber and jump into the pool you find
  • Head east in the fifth chamber and enter the middle pool
  • Head west in the sixth chamber, then look along the wall to the south for a chest containing 5,000 silver
  • Enter the pool north of the chest in the sixth chamber
  • Look west of the entrance pool in the seventh chamber to find a chest containing a Ruby Tiara
  • Look northeast of the entrance pool in the seventh chamber to find a chest containing an Angel Ring
  • Head east of the entrance pool in the seventh chamber, then north, then west to find a cluster of pools - enter the second pool from the left, just to the right of the western-most pool
  • Head east of the entrance pool in the eighth chamber, then north, then as far west as you can, then to the south to find chests containing a Jewel Bracelet and a Chira's Tail
  • Enter the pool to the north of the chests in the eighth chamber
  • Head west of the entrance pool in the ninth chamber to find a chest containing a Dragon Armlet
  • Continue west in the ninth chamber to find the end of the dungeon

Yep, that's all. No boss this time. Inside the final chamber you'll discover the genial Blue Dragon, and, of course, your meeting will be rudely cut short by an outside force. Alex will nevertheless receive the Dragon Helmet by checking the path that the Blue Dragon opens to the right of his sanctum, and Alex will learn Dragon Healing, a powerful restorative spell that costs more MP than it is worth. Equip the Dragon Helmet on Alex and use a spell or item to zip out of the dungeon. Three dragons down, one to go.
