Main Walkthrough

Recommended Level: 45

The fourth, final chapter of Partitio's story takes place on Roque Island, an industrial wonderland located in On the Water. To reach Roque Island you'll need to unlock the boat for your party's use, which requires completing the Tropu'hopu segment of Partitio's Scent of Commerce quests. Roque Island is located to the south of Canalbrine.

Upon arrival at Roque Island you'll first need to battle your way through Roque Island: Anchorage, an area frequented by a mixture of NPCs and monsters. We'll inspect it in another article. Once you arrive at the town segment of Roque Island - which we will also inspect in another article - you can either begin Partitio's chapter immediately or look around for a bit. If you choose to start the chapter later you'll find the Tavern in the southwest of Roque Island. Speak to the Tavern Keeper when you're ready.

A massive check in hand, Partitio shows up on Roque Island fully intending to buy the rights to steam engines from Roque, his father's former business partner. Head north through the town section of Roque Island to the Headquarters, where Roque's big announcement is set to begin. Alas, Partitio lacks the papers needed to get inside, though a timely appearance by Ori the scrivener reveals a back entrance to the proceedings.

Follow Ori back to the town, then to the Tavern. Ori will reveal a hidden door in the Tavern that leads to the side streets by the Headquarters. Enter the door on your left. Ori will 'sacrifice' herself so Partitio can keep going.

  • Wind Sentinel Mk. II - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Axe, Staff, Lightning - Drop / Steal Wind Soulstone (M)

Use the save point near the entrance, then head east. You'll come to a pair of staircases, leading up and down. Go down first and you'll find a cluttered storage area at the bottom. A nearby door leads to a chest containing an Inspiriting Plum Basket.

Take the up stairs and keep following the path until it brings you to a ladder. The ladder will put you atop a series of eastbound catwalks. Follow them east and south, until you hit an intersection. Continuing south will bring you to a chest containing an Empowering Lychee (L). To the east is another ladder that will put you at the bottom of the factory floor, and next to a furnace on your left you'll find a chest containing a Fire Soulstone (L).

Also near the furnace are stairs. Climb them and head north and east, until you find what appears to be a pit of oil. Next to the pit are stairs, and if you go behind them you can get at a dock that will allow you to sail out into the oil. On the other side you'll find a chest containing a Venom Lance, which is a wise equip for Partitio if you're behind on his equipment.

Sail back across the oil and go up the stairs that you ignored before. You'll briefly emerge outside, and you can listen to Roque give a segment of his speech. (He talks for a bit. If you've enjoyed Partitio's story, you should listen to the whole thing.) On the other end of the bridge you'll be back inside.

The Roque Company: East Tower

Go down the nearby stairs. You'll find a line of rooms to the north. The first is empty, the second holds a chest containing 24,500 leaves, the third is empty, and the found holds a chest containing a Large Silver Ore.

Head south of the second office, presumably Roque's. The path will lead you east, to more stairs. There's a side path next to the stairs that will take you south, to a chest containing an Olive of Life (L). Go down the stairs and you'll find two more offices on the lower floor. The one further to the west holds a chest containing Aged Wine. If you check the wall to your left on the outside of this office you'll find a hidden staircase leading to a storeroom, and inside it is a chest containing a Mechanical Bow.

Head down the stairs to what is, presumably, the ground floor. There's a final office on your right, and inside is a chest containing Refreshing Jam. West of here is a save point and a door, and if that doesn't tell you what's coming, well... suffice it to say that you should heal your party and save before you head outside. A lengthy cut scene follows, and you'll need to make a momentous Purchase at one point. Check to the west when you regain control of Partitio to... well, you'll see.

Steam Tank Obsidian

Shields:

  • 40 / 30 (Steam Tank Obsidian)
  • 4 (Cannon)
  • 5 (Smokestack)
  • 6 (Glacis Plate)
Weaknesses:
  • Polearm, Bow, Dark (Steam Tank Obsidian)
  • Sword, Dagger, Bow, Ice, Lightning (Cannon)
  • Polearm, Dagger, Axe, Fire, Lightning (Smokestack)
  • Sword, Axe, Staff, Fire, Ice (Glacis Plate)
Drop: Revitalizing Jam
Steal: Revitalizing Jam

Bet you didn't think you'd be fighting a train in this game. Another of Roque's innovations, the Steam Tank Obsidian is here to ruin your day. Consisting of four components, the Obsidian also gets four moves per round, and it will use all of them to test your mettle. The Steam Tank Obsidian can use the following abilities:
  • Brush Aside, a physical attack against one target
  • Roll Out, a physical attack against one target
  • Piston Viper No. 69, a physical attack against your whole party
  • Steam Whistle, which damages the whole party
  • Discharge Exhaust, a Fire attack against the whole party that can inflict Poison
  • Smoke Screen, which can inflict Blind on your entire party
  • An 'Attack' from the Cannon that takes several turns to load up but inflicts extreme damage on a single character
  • Emergency Maintence, which immediately restores a Broken component
  • Enhance Armor, a defensive buff for every component of the Obsidian
  • Add Fuel, an offensive buff for every component of the Obsidian
  • Repairs, which restores the components of the Obsidian after they've been destroyed
  • Dark Smoke, which obscures the timeline and prevents you from seeing who will go next
  • Drive Off, which knocks a single character out of the battle for a few rounds
  • Runaway Tank, a 'charged' attack that always leads to Full Steam Ahead, a physical attack against your whole party
The main body of the Obsidian has its weaknesses covered when the battle begins, and you need to strip away its three components to fully expose the engine. The main body and the Glacis Plate perform the bulk of the round-to-round attacks, while the Smokestack provides buffs. The Cannon will remain dormant for several turns, though when it is prepped it will launch an attack that can OHKO a character. Breaking each component strips ten shields off of the Obsidian's main body, as well as exposes one weakness.

Break the Obsidian's main body and do a bunch of damage and it will eventually effect Repairs, bringing any destroyed components back on line. At this point it will begin using some more potent attacks, which includes obscuring the timeline and knocking characters out of the battle. Continue to damage the Obsidian and, once it dips below half health, Roque will yell at Partitio for a while. This marks the beginning of the end, and from this point on the Obsidian will only use Full Steam Ahead, a physical attack against your whole party. It can do this twice per round.

The first section of the fight requires a bit of thoughtful targeting. Even though it only goes once every few rounds, you should make a point to Break and eventually destroy the Cannon first. It does too much damage to ignore. The Smokestack can go next to prevent buffing, and the Glacis Plate third. Heap damage onto the main body once all the components are gone, healing and buffing your party as needed. Moves that downplay physical attacks are recommended.

Once Roque gives up on sublety you'll need to focus on Breaking the remains of his 'tank' while healing away the damage he's doing. Partitio's Latent Power will allow him to frequently get in four Polearm strikes per turn with his spears, and a Hunter can use Precise Shot to rip through the vehicle's shields. Buffs to everyone's defense are recommended, as are any measures that can Blind the Obsidian. Unless you're managing to avoid every attack you'll want a Cleric healing the party, as the Obsidian gets two attacks per turn.

Once the battle is over you'll need to switch to night, then use Partitio's Hire Path Action to wrap things up. His story will end with huge changes to the world - in the future, anyway - and after many cut scenes, you'll be sent back to your journey. Partitio will learn the Share SP EX Skill, and if he was your starting character you can now remove him from the party at any Tavern. Story complete!
