The third and final chapter of Ochette's story takes place at Beasting Village, where she began the game. Upon arrival you can choose to start the chapter right away, or hold off until later and look around a bit. If you opt to wait you can activate the chapter by visiting the Tavern in Beasting Village, which is on the east side, where the humans live.

With three beasts of legend tailing behind her, Ochette returns to her village a hero... or she would, if she'd bothered to bring any presents as well. Alas. Head to the cape in the northwest of the village and you'll find Juvah, the Wardenbeast of Toto'haha, waiting for Ochette. He's quite happy with Ochette's work.

Head to the Path to the Tomb of the Wardenbeasts, where Ochette began the game, then take the western path, south of the first save point. You'll wind up on the Summit of Strife.

Summit of Strife / Verdant Wood / Stormy Cape / Moonview Cliff

Enemies

  • Shadowy Furious Fungoid - Weak to Polearm, Staff, Wind, Light - Drop Shadow Soulstone (M)
  • Shadowy Horse Fly - Weak to Polearm, Bow, Light
  • Shadowy Peek-a-Boo - Weak to Dagger, Axe, Lightning, Light
The beastlings have been busy prepping the area for the Night of the Scarlet Moon, and you'll find the entrance of the Summit of Strife protected by wooden barriers. Head west to meet Juvah, who will explain what the Night of the Scarlet Moon is... supposedly. By the time all is said and done the scarlet moon itself will appear, and things will start to go wrong.

What follows are several battles that you're forced to fight. The first is against Shadow Horse Flies, which are no big deal. Next is against Shadowy Furious Fungoids, which, if given time, can stunlock your characters into Paralysis. Break them pronto. Last are Horse Flies, Fungoids, and Shadowy Peek-a-Boos, which is a middling fight. Get through all three battles to drive the monsters off... temporarily.

Head west, into the Verdant Wood. After a quick... save... by Tera, you'll be free to explore. Random Shadowy enemies will pester you here, and you can't run from any of these battles. Be sure to heal between fights so you don't get in over your head. You'll find a save point ahead, and beyond it are stairs. Check the cave next to the stairs for a chest containing an Energizing Poegranate (L).

The stairs lead north, onto Stormy Cape. Glacis will create an icy shortcut leading west. If you ignore it and head north you'll find a number of chests:

  • Before you reach the first rope bridge to the north of the save point you can find a set of stairs. They lead to a chest beneath the second bridge. The chest contains an Axe of the Conqueror.
  • Just north of the east side of the first rope bridge is a chest containing Revitalizing Jam.
  • In the northwest of this area the path will split in two, shortly after you cross the second rope bridge. Go southwest at this split and you'll find a chest containing a Tornado Bow.
  • The path splits again as you run south of the third rope bridge. Go left to find a chest containing an Empowering Lychee (L).
Regardless of the path you take, you'll find the stairs up to Moonview Cliff in the southwest of this area. There's a save point at the top, and the dramatic music suddenly stops, which should be a clue of something waiting to pounce. Heal up, save your game, and confront that which Ochette declined years ago.

Lājackal / Malamaowl of the Sorrowful Moon

Shields: 7
Weaknesses:
  • Sword, Axe, Ice, Wind (Lājackal, first phase)
  • Bow, Staff, Wind, Dark (Lājackal, second phase)
  • Polearm, Dagger, Fire, Lightning, Light (Lājackal, third phase)
  • Dagger, Bow, Fire (Malamaowl, first phase)
  • Polearm, Axe, Staff, Dark (Malamaowl, second phase)
  • Sword, Bow, Ice, ?, Light (Malamaowl, third phase)
Drop: Energizing Pomegranate (L)
Steal: Energizing Pomegranate (L)

Now that's sad. The unchosen monster from the beginning of Ochette's story, Lājackal / Malamaowl is the final boss of her story. Abused beyond belief, Ochette's potential companion as become a fearsome foe. You'll need to put the poor beast down. There are some differences between the two creatures, depending on which you're fighting, which are noted below.

Lājackal uses the following attacks:
  • Normal melee attacks
  • Dark Fang, a melee attack against a single target
  • Dark Claw, a melee attack against the whole party
  • Night Howl, an elemental attack debuff against the whole party
  • Blacksnake, a defensive debuff against the whole party
  • The beast preys upon a single character, likely killing them and transforming into a new, more fearsome form with different weaknesses
  • Song of Despair, a Dark attack against the whole party
  • BP Deficit, which lowers everyone's BP count
  • Malevolent Bite, a heavy charged attack against the whole party
Malamaowl uses the following attacks:
  • Normal melee attacks
  • Aggressive Strike, a series of physical attacks against random targets
  • Dark Ice, an Ice attack against a single target
  • Dark Wind, a Wind attack against the whole party
  • Shadow Magic, a Dark attack against the whole party
  • Blacksnake, a defensive debuff against the whole party
  • The beast preys upon a single character, likely killing them and transforming into a new, more fearsome form with different weaknesses
  • Rend Night, a physical attack against the whole party
  • BP Deficit, which lowers everyone's BP count
(Apologies, I know the list for the Malamaowl is incomplete. I gleaned what I could from YouTube videos of other people fighting the thing. Eventually I'll play through the game again and update this attack list.)

The two monsters differ in their approach to the fight, with the Lājackal favoring physical strikes and debuffs while the Malamaowl dishes out a bunch of elemental damage. The battle nevertheless runs more or less the same for both. The Darklings start out as 'normal' animals, then, after a single Break, they will change into a new, more powerful form with a different weakness set. Both will prey on a target, reducing them to one HP. Continue to damage the Darkling and soon it will push its attacks to three per turn, and when its form changes it will begin to use a charged attack.

The fight begins with Acta becoming the new Cateracta and giving the party Ocean's Blessing, a nice defensive buff to get you started. Your animal companion will also 'grow up', as it were, and prove a more powerful Provoke option. From this point on the battle is pretty straightforward, as far as final bosses go, and you just need to keep your enemy Broken while healing away damage. Dispel any debuffs and target weaknesses. Ochette's Latent Powers will allow you to heap on heavy damage once the creature is Broken.

Winning the battle will effectively end the chapter, once you perform one last act of Befriending as Ochette. Completing the chapter will unlock Ochette's Provoke Beasts EX Skill. It will also, if Ochette was your starting character, allow you to remove her from the party at a Tavern, just like any other party member. Story complete!
