A wannabe pirate treasure hunter with a thirst for adventure, Dan is the alter-ego of Dev, the mild-mannered mail clerk who works at Town Hall. Dan is a weird character to track down, as he only appears in the evenings, after Dev is tired from a day at work. Once Dan is in play he'll wander all over the place, and just about the only way to catch him in the wild is to send your dog out. Don't bother looking for Dan until after Town Hall closes, as he won't be around.
Once you've maxed out your friendship with Dan - and it is separate from your friendship with Dev - a notice will go up on the Bulletin Boards around town. It's from Leano, and she's angry at whomever is spying on her ship. Wonder who that could be. Leano invites the spy to face her at the northwestern beach between 18:30 and 23:00, any day of the week. The trigger point for the quest is just south of the beach, so if you're waiting around on the beach for the scene to begin you need to head back towards Moonbury.
Dan is scoping out the ocean, trying to locate some sort of magical cutlass. He'll berate you for your lack of adventure, then leave. Yep, he was the one stirring up trouble for Leano. She and Ottmar will come by to wrap up the quest, which will raise your relationship with Dan to the second level. Continue to befriend the pirate and you'll unlock the next quest in his storyline, The Legendary Cutlass.
