Now that you're done with Lumiose City for a while it's time to head back into the countryside. Lumiose City has more exits than the two you can currently access, but until the power is back on in the entire city you can't get at the rest. Route 5 it is, then.

On your way through the Route 5 gate from Lumiose City you'll run into Mr. Bonding, an expert on O-Powers. O-Powers are temporary bonuses applied to your Pokémon via the PSS menu (the folder at the top of the touch screen). You can pass the effects of O-Powers on to friends or use them yourself. They'll make battles a little bit easier, and grow stronger with frequent use. Mr. Bonding starts you off by giving you the Attack and Defense O-Powers.

Once you arrive on Route 5 proper you'll be greeted by an enthusiastic Lucario belonging to Korrina, the Shalour City Gym Leader. You'll be facing her in battle soon enough, and she'll pop up from time to time before that fateful battle as well. Once Korrina leaves you can explore the Route. Start by heading up into the nearby roller rink. Right in the middle of the square section of the rink is a hidden Paralyze Heal. On the east side of the rink is a rail you can hop onto and grind with your Roller Skates to reach a Super Potion.

Head west. Your first trainer battle is waiting at the top of some stairs, though you can avoid them if you only have one active Pokémon in your team. South of them is a patch of grass, and if you check along the right side of the grass you'll find a Great Ball.

Twins Faith & Joy
  • Plusle, level 11
  • Minun, level 11
Reward: 352 P

Head south of these pint-sized trainers and you'll run into Trevor and Tierno. Tierno is, as ever, obsessed with dancing, and he'll decide to show off his moves in a battle.

Pokémon Trainer Tierno
  • Corphish, level 12
Reward: 1,200 P

Of the rival trainers, Tierno is usually the least threatening. His sole Pokémon, Corphish, can lay on some damage if you give it a turn or two to use Swords Dance, so make sure you knock it out quickly. Shouldn't be an issue. In the aftermath of the battle Trevor will give you three dollops of Honey and explain how Hordes work.

North of the pair is another trainer. Carry on north of him and you'll find a grinding rail. Before you go down it, check the rock on your left for a Super Potion. The rail will take you down to the roller rink from earlier where you'll find another Super Potion.

Rising Star Hamish
  • Kadabra, level 13
Reward: 780 P

Skate back to Hamish and go up the hill on your left. The path will split at a set of stairs. Ignore the stairs and go south to find a grinding rail. It will take you down to a tree covered in Oran Berries, one of which is sitting at the base of the tree. You can return here periodically to receive a new Oran Berry.

Loop back around to the stairs and head up. There are three trainers up here, two circling pylons to the north and a third to the southwest. If you hop on the grinding rail north of the two Roller Skaters you'll find another one to the west, and this one will take you to TM01 Hone Claws. South of the Rising Star and through a field of flowers is an X Attack.

Roller Skater Winnie
  • Bunnelby, level 9
  • Skiddo, level 11
Reward: 352 P

Roller Skater Florin
  • Doduo, level 12
Reward: 384 P

Rising Star Tyson
  • Bidoof, level 12
  • Oddish, level 10
Reward: 600 P

Carry on down the main path from Tyson and you'll run into another trainer. Past him you'll find more patches of flowers, patrolled by the last trainer you can currently battle on Route 5. There's a bush to Cut down along this path, but you can't do that quite yet.

Backpacker Heike
  • Sentret, level 12
Reward: 480 P

Youngster Keita
  • Pansage, level 12
Reward: 288 P

Defeating Keita will bring you to the end of Route 5. Next up: Camphrier Town.

Return Trip

Come back to Route 5 once you can use Cut and slice down the busy near the end of Route 5. Behind it is a Sharp Beak, guarded by a trainer.

Youngster Anthony
  • Carvanha, level 10
  • Pancham, level 10
