Part 45: Route 21 and Seaside Cave

Main Walkthrough

The dynamic duo of you and Hugh have located the Plasma Frigate, Team Plasma's base of operations, and Hugh has recklessly run aboard. Follow him and you'll immediately find yourself facing Team Plasma in combat.

Team Plasma Grunt

  • Watchog, level 46
  • Garbodor, level 46

Reward: 1,840 P

The Grunts will run off after the fight is over, and Hugh will give chase. Before you follow, check the right side of the upper deck on the south end of the ship. You'll find TM 67 Retaliate. The upper deck on the north end of the ship has a Revive. At this point the Plasma Frigate is different depending on your version of the game, and we'll start by exploring the Frigate in Black 2.

Plasma Frigate - Black 2

Head into the northern door with Hugh to get started on clearing out the Frigate, which includes the two Team Plasma Grunts just inside the door.

Team Plasma Grunt and Team Plasma Grunt

  • Golbat, level 46
  • Drapion level 46
  • Seviper, level 46
  • Garbodor, level 46

Reward: 3,680 P

Once the Grunts flee you can look around. This room has four smaller rooms to the sides, each containing a floor switch and a teleporter. You need to hit each of the switches to deactivate the four energy barriers blocking the way to the end of the Frigate in the north of this room. You can't get at the switches from here, so head back outside and go down the stairs directly ahead.

This section of the Plasma Frigate consists of six doors into barracks, guarded by a bunch of Team Plasma Grunts. Four of the rooms contain teleporters that connect to the switches, though it's not obvious which teleporter leads where until you try them out. For simplicity's sake this guide will go through each of the rooms, number the Grunts you'll fight in each one, and provide a brief description of what each room contains.

The rooms below are labeled L1 to L3 and R1 to R3, starting from the top room. Room L3, as an example, would be the third room from the top on the left side of the hallway. The teleporters leading to switches are bolded.

Hallway - Contains Grunts 1 (left) and 2 (right).

Room L1 - Contains Grunts 3 (between the bunks) and 4 (upper left). Southeast teleporter leads to R1, northwest teleporter leads to a switch.

Room L2 - Contains a Grunt who will provide Pokédex entries for Zekrom and Reshiram. Northeast teleporter leads to R2, southeast teleporter leads to R3, northwest teleporter leads to L3, southwest teleporter leads to R2.

Room L3 - Contains Grunts 5 (between the bunks) and 6 (upper left). Northeast teleporter leads to R3, northwest teleporter leads to a switch, southwest teleporter leads to L2.

Room R1 - Contains beds you can use to restore your team to full health. Also contains a Magmarizer. Southwest teleporter leads to L2, northeast teleporter leads to L1.

Room R2 - Contains Grunts 7 (beside the door) and 8 (between the bunks). Northwest teleporter leads to a switch, southwest teleporter leads to L2, northeast teleporter leads to L2, southeast teleporter leads to R1.

Room R3 - Contains Grunt 9. Southwest teleporter leads to L3, northeast teleporter leads to L2, southeast teleporter leads to a switch.

Plasma Frigate - White 2

As with the Black 2 version of the Plasma Frigate, the White 2 version requires you to lower an energy barrier to proceed to the core of the ship. This time, however, you need to puzzle out the password of the computer console that deactivates the barrier, as well as collect a Plasma Card to use the console. The Team Plasma Grunts have the Card and the clues you need to decipher the password.

The four Grunts you need to find are scattered around six rooms in the Frigate. We'll go through the rooms one-at-a-time. Be ready to battle, as many of the Grunts want to scrap. The walkthrough has them labeled so you know what you're fighting when you approach each Grunt.

Hallway - Contains Grunts 1 (left) and 2 (right).

Top-Left Room - Contains Grunt 3, who provides a hint.

Middle-Left Room / Bottom-Left Room - The doors lead to a single room. Contains Grunts 4 (middle-left) and 5 (bottom). Grunt 4 has the Plasma Card, while Grunt 5 has a hint. Room also contains an Electirizer, and the Grunt in the top-left corner will give you the Pokédex entries for Reshiram and Zekrom.

Top-Right Room - Contains Grunt 6, who provides a hint.

Middle-Right Room - Contains beds which you can use to heal your team.

Bottom-Right Room - Contains Grunts 7 (between the beds) and 8 (right side of the room). Both Grunts have hints.

It should be obvious pretty quickly that the password is RESHIRAM.

Head back upstairs. The barriers will either be gone or you can get rid of them, allowing you to infiltrate the room above the Plasma Frigate's main reactor. Zinzolin is waiting, and he'll reveal the core of the Frigate: The legendary Ice-type Pokémon Kyurem. That explains a few things. Hugh shows up to help, and together the pair of you face off against Zinzolin and one of his cronies.

Team Plasma Zinzolin and Team Plasma Grunt

  • Cryogonal, level 48 (Zinzolin)
  • Cryogonal, level 48 (Zinzolin)
  • Weavile, level 50 (Zinzolin)
  • Liepard, level 45 (Grunt)
  • Watchog, level 45 (Grunt)
  • Scolipede, level 45 (Grunt)
Reward: 10,800 P

Not that bad a fight, especially if Hugh is running around with Emboar as his starter. Try to wipe out Zinzolin's two Cryogonals first, as they can throw up Reflect and Light Screen to deaden your attacks. Given that the Grunt has a Dark-type and a Normal-type to back up Zinzolin's Ice-types, using Fighting-type moves will go a long way towards turning this battle into a slaughter.

You and Hugh will get booted off of the Plasma Frigate once you defeat Zinzolin, and the ship will head off into the sky. Cheren, showing up just in time, postulates that it is headed towards Giant Chasm, at the end of Route 22. Best make tracks!
