Main Walkthrough

The second step of Primrose's story will take you to Stillsnow, an isolated town in the midst of the Frostlands, far to the north of Sunshade where her tale began. Your most likely path there is via the East Victors Hollow Trail, north of the West S'warkii Trail, on the west side of Orsterra. Trek steadily east through the Western Stillsnow Wilds to reach Stillsnow.

Let's have a quick look around the town, in case you've never visited Stillsnow before now:

  • Right beside the Inn near the entrance of Stillsnow is the General Store. There are a bunch of good items for sale here if you need to upgrade your party, and if you're coming here around level 21, as recommended, you'll almost certainly need better gear. You can make some good money fighting the monsters outside Stillsnow.
  • In the northeast of town is a luxurious-looking home. Inside is a chest containing an Inspiriting Plum. Right next to this house is a path north to the Trail to the Whitewood, a Danger Level 37 area that's far above the difficulty of this chapter. Should probably avoid it for now.
  • Next to the opulent house is a chapel. Inside is a chest containing a Healing Grape (M). The Cleric who runs the chapel has a Jaguar Lance that's worth Stealing / Purchasing.
  • Next to the chapel is a home guarded by a Townsperson who won't let you inside. You can Steal / Purchase a Horned Helm, a Spiked Armor, and a Spiked Shield from her. Challenge / Provoke her and you'll receive a Spirit Sword for winning the fight. Inside the house is a chest containing a Swordbreaker, which can serve Primrose well in this chapter.
  • Follow the southern path east through Stillsnow to find the Tavern. Inside is a chest containing an Olive of Life. The Ingenious Inventor in here has an Empowering Ring that's worth Stealing / Purchasing. The Pensive Girl just outside the Tavern has a Crescent Dagger that you can Steal / Purchase for Primrose.
  • In the east of town is a house with a Shadow Soulstone (M) inside. The Dancer here has a Forbidden Dagger that is massively expensive to Purchase (72,000 leaves!) and nigh impossible to Steal early on, but you should keep her in mind for later. The Old Man out front has a Bishop's Hat that is much easier to Steal / Purchase.

If you decided not to begin Primrose's second chapter upon entering Stillsnow you can activate it by entering the Tavern, speaking to the Tavern Keeper, and choosing 'Hear a Tale'.

Chapter 2

Primrose needs leads for tracking down the hooded man. Head to the Tavern and she'll notice a stage. Primrose will jump onto the stage and perform a dance, wowing the crowd - and drawing the eye of one of her former servants, Arianna. Primrose will convince Arianna to share all that she can.

Head to the next house to the east to trigger another cut scene. Turns out Stillsnow has a secret brothel nearby, and a discrete carriage ride will take travelers where they need to go to enjoy its seedy delights. Speak to Arianna outside the house once you're done talking and you can wait until the carriage shows up. The man who runs the carriage, Oren, is not interested in letting Primrose aboard, however.

Speak to Arianna and she'll tell you that Oren owes a dept to the Tavern Keeper. Allure the Tavern Keeper and drag him over to Oren. Oren will agree and let the party aboard the carriage. After several poignant cut scenes you'll wind up at Primrose's destination, the Obsidian Parlor.

Road to the Obsidian Parlor

The carriage will leave you just south of the Obsidian Parlor's front door, however you can't enter the place directly. You'll need to enter a nearby cave and trek through the tunnels to reach Primrose's target. Before you do, though, have a look around the Road to the Obsidian Parlor, as there are a few things to find. The monsters don't take kindly to your presence, alas:

  • Majestic Snow Marmot - Weak to Dagger, Lightning, and Dark. Can use Silencing Stab to prevent Skill use on a character. Annoying, but not a big deal. Primrose's Night Ode will stun groups of them quickly.
  • Howler - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Bow, and Wind. Can use Stormbound to hit everyone with Wind damage, but is generally a basic melee attacker.
  • Frost Bear - Weak to Polearm, Axe, and Wind. Hefty ursine creature that can hit your whole party really hard. Keep it stunned. These can show up groups of three, and if you don't manage to stun them consistently their Rampage attack can really wreck your party.

Just south of the save point and down a slope is a chest containing an Herb of Revival. If you trek north to the entrance of the Obsidian Parlor you'll find a purple chest to the left of the gate. It contains a Dark Amulet. If you head west you'll find a path back to Stillsnow, and this time you don't need to use a carriage to move back and forth between the two areas. You'll find an Ice Soulstone (M) along this path.

Next to the save point is a path to a cave. This will take you where Primrose needs to go.

Secret Path

The cavern path to the secret entrance of the Obsidian Parlor is a treacherous walk for your party, with a greater variety of enemies to bedevil you (though, fortunately, there are no more Frost Bears). You'll meet the following enemies along the Secret Path:

  • Ash Raven - Weak to Polearm, Dagger, Bow, and Wind. Can use Horrific Claw to lock away Boosting, which is a pain in this place. Try to keep them stunned when dealing with other enemies, as they're not that dangerous to your health.
  • Wind Sentinel - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Axe, Staff, and Lightning. Uses a mixture of melee and Wind attacks. Can be stunned easily.
  • Wind Guardian - Weak to Sword, Dagger, Bow, and Lightning. Uses melee attacks to hit one character and Cyclone to hit everyone. Looks more dangerous than it is.
  • Wind Curator - Weak to Polearm, Bow, Staff, and Lightning. Uses wind-based Skills to damage the party. Nothing special, and fairly easy to stun.
  • Light Sentinel - Weak to Sword, Polearm, Axe, Staff, and Dark. Generally use melee attacks, and appear in large numbers. Primrose's Night Ode will keep big groups of them stunned.
  • Light Guardian - Weak to Sword, Dagger, Bow, and Dark. Can hit everyone with Sunshine, and otherwise uses melee attacks. Stun them while dealing with lesser enemies.
  • Light Curator - Weak to Polearm, Bow, Staff, and Dark. Uses light-based Skills to damage the party. Nothing special.

The eastbound path from the entrance branches off in three ways. Check down the stairs straight ahead to find an Herb of Revival, then backtrack and take the middle path. It splits again to the east. Take the southern path to find a Shadow Soulstone (M), the straight(ish) path to find an Inspiriting Plum (M), and the northern path, up the stairs, to reach a (very gross) cut scene. Right next to you is a save point.

Here the path diverges again. Cross the bridge to find an Energizing Pomegranate (M). If you check along the right wall as you make your way back south and go past the bridge you can find a hidden path that leads through the rocks and over to a purple chest. It contains 5,500 leaves.

Cross the bridge, return to the save point, and head northwest. There's a purple chest on your right as you travel that contains a Spiked Vest. Keep going northwest and you'll hit a torch-lit intersection. Down the stairs to your left is a Healing Grape Bunch, and up the slope on your right is a Wakeful Stone. You'll find the path into the Obsidian Parlor up the stairs in the northwest. Save here, heal up your party, and prepare to enact one-third of Primrose's revenge.

Rufus, the Left-hand Man

Weakness: Polearm, Staff, Lightning, Light

Weakness (Obsidian Associates): Dagger, Axe, Ice, Wind

It should be no surprise that Primrose's first target is a powerful enemy. Accompanied by two Obsidian Associates, Rufus loves physical attacks. If he's not attacking normally he can use Pummel to knock one person unconscious for a few rounds and Roundhouse Kick to target the entire party. When he takes a deep breath Rufus will use Left-hand Man on the entire party, which essentially combines Pummel and Roundhouse Kick, targeting your whole party and potentially knocking everyone unconscious. Falling to Left-hand Man can be lethal if it manages to take everyone out, giving Rufus and company a few turns to wallop you unmolested. The Obsidian Associates will hit normally, for the most part, though they can also use Quick Strike to target the whole party.

Unless you're overleveled this fight will take a while. Rufus can call in more Obsidian Associates, but he won't do so for quite a while after the first ones die, so focus on wiping them out first before you really go to town on their boss. (The reinforcements will be weaker than the originals, as well.) Heal as necessary and keep hitting Rufus until he starts to take his deep breaths. You want to be able to Boost your way through his defenses and stop him before he can use Left-hand Man. Don't break Rufus until he's glowing or there's a good chance that he'll get the move off and really make a mess of things. Given Rufus' complete reliance on physical attacks, debuffing him will work wonders. Therion's Skills are quite helpful for this. If anyone gets knocked out, Alfyn or a plain 'ol Revival Herb will bring them back into the fight. It's not that difficult of a battle, but it takes a long time to chip Rufus' 30,000+ HP down to zero.

You'll receive a Refreshing Jam for defeating Rufus. With his dying breath he'll point Primrose towards Noblecourt, her hometown.
