Main Walkthrough

Stardew Valley is an old, old place, far older than Pelican Town would suggest, and its grounds are littered with treasures from days long gone. Enterprising diggers can unearth these prizes with a bit of pluck and hard work, and earn some prizes for their efforts - though you may wind up travelling to some rather hazardous locales if you want to find them all.

Unlike Minerals, which are a little more multi-purpose, Artifacts in Stardew Valley serve basically one purpose: they're donation fodder for the Stardew Valley Museum & Library. Whenever you bring an Artifact to Gunther behind the desk there's a chance you'll earn a little prize for the find, culminating in the Rusty Key that will allow you to access the Sewer. Artifacts are, on the whole, rarer than Minerals, so it pays to actively note which ones you haven't already donated.

There are several different ways to find Artifacts in Stardew Valley:

  • Dig them up. Artifacts can often be found beneath the wriggling worm-like things that occasionally appear in the great outdoors. Bring a Hoe.
  • Bash them out of enemies. You'll need to head to the Mines and the Skull Cavern for these acquisitions.
  • Discover them in Geodes. Geodes are rocky containers, usually found in rocks, which can be opened by Clint to reveal goodies. Sometimes those goodies are Artifacts.
  • Fish them out of the water. While fishing you can collect treasure chests, and these chests occasionally contain Artifacts.
Not every method of acquisition will yield every Artifact, so we'll break down where you're likely to find each one.
