Zoe and Grizzbolt, the first Syndicate bosses you're likely to battle in Palworld.

More Palworld Guides

Shortly after your first visit to Palworld you'll likely notice one or more huge towers, way off in the distance. These are Rayne Syndicate Towers, and they're guarded by Pal / human duos who are eager to knock the stuffing out of all contenders. The nearest of these - assuming you began in the Windswept Hills - is a relatively short trip to the nothwest, and it belongs to a vicious pair named Zoe and Grizzbolt. They make for quite the introductory boss fight.

This guide will teach you how to battle Zoe and Grizzbolt in Palworld. Despite this battle appearing as part of your tutorial checklist they are not tutorial-level enemies, and you'll want to get to at least level 13 before you seriously consider challenging Zoe and Grizzbolt.

Location

The Rayne Syndicate Tower is located to the northwest of the Windswept Hills, which is likely where you set up your first base. If you travel northwest from the starting point, down into the lowlands and over to the Grassy Behemoth Hills Fast Travel point, you'll find a rough road that leads through a canyon and across a small, dusty wasteland. The base of the Rayne Syndicate Tower is a short walk further north from here. (You'll see it most of the way, so it's tough to get lost.)

If you look near the stairs leading up to the tower you'll find a Great Eagle statue that you can use for Fast Travel. There's a better-than-good chance that Zoe and Grizzbolt will take you out on your first attempt, so activate this statue before you fight. If you lose your inventory will wind up outside the tower, and you can Fast Travel back and grab everything in a heartbeat.

The player crafts the Daedream's Necklace ini Palworld. This item automatically deploys any Daedreams that you have in your party.

Preparation

Zoe and Grizzbolt are a powerful pair. You'll want to ready yourself before you try taking them on. Here are some steps you can take:
  • Create a ranged weapon. You don't want to get close to Grizzbolt, so Spears are out. Crossbows (Technology level 13) is a good base option, and you can go a bit stronger with a Fire Arrow Crossbow (Technology level 15) or a Poison Arrow Crossbow (Technology level 17) if you want a bit more kick. Get lots of Arrows to go along with your weapon, as well.
  • Create some defensive gear. At this point in the game that probably means crafting and equipping some Pelt Armor (Technology level 12) and a Feathered Hair Band (Technology level 10). make sure both are at perfect quality before you head into the fight. A Common Shield (Technology level 4) can't hurt, either, though for the most part you don't want - or need - to take hits in this fight. Still, every little bit helps.
  • Add a few Ground-type Pals to your team. Gumoss is the most likely candidate, and they appear often in Grassy Behemoth Hills. You can also use Pals that have Ground-type moves - if you found a Direhowl, for example, it will know Sand Blast by now - but they will take more damage from Grizzbolt's attacks.
  • If you want to take the cheaper route out, you can also get a Daedream's Necklace (Technology Level 8), crafted at a Pal Gear Workbench. When the necklace is in your inventory any Daedreams in your party will come out of their Pal Spheres and attack enemies - and take no damage themselves. Put multiple Daedreams in your party and they will all jump out to help. You can catch Daedreams at night, near the Windswept Hills.
Grizzbolt prepares a laser-targeted attack on the player in Palworld.

The Battle

Zoe and Grizzbolt have 30,000 HP, so it'll take a while to whittle away their health. They use the following moves:
  • Close-range swipes
  • Leaping claw combos
  • Drop-down slam attacks
  • Long-range flurries of electric bolts
  • Overhead lightning attacks that travel in a line
  • A targeted homing attack that hits especially hard
Unsusprisingly, you want to keep away from Zoe and Grizzbolt for the entire fight. Throw your first Pal out at a distance from yourself and let it get Grizzbolt's attention, then start peppering the beast with charged arrow attacks. Stay close to the pillars on the edges of the arena, as they'll allow you to easily avoid Grizzbolt's attacks if it gets in close. Rolling is also quite effective, if you'd rather not hug the pillars. As long as you stay on one side of Grizzbolt and your Pals stay on the other side, you should be able to juggle its attention back and forth...

... and reveal your primary target: Zoe. Your Pal won't bother targeting anything but Grizzbolt, but since you have freedom to aim, you can shoot at Grizzbolt's master. Any hits on Zoe inflict extra damage to the pair, which helps end the battle a little bit quicker. Be sure to back off if this gets Grizzbolt's attention, however, as its electric attacks do a number on you.

You'll have ten minutes to beat Zoe and Grizzbolt. If you succeed you'll receive five Ancient Technology Points. You'll also be teleported to the top of the Rayne Syndicate Tower, where you'll find another Great Eagle statue. Activate it and you can use this point to glide off in any direction, in search of new discoveries. (You'll also get another Technology Point, which is always nice.) Well done!
