Part 25: Trip to Nanjiang

Main Walkthrough

As soon as Yi returns from a lengthy trip to Nanjiang he learns of news most dire: Beggars' Sect is under attack. Xuanhuo Cult continues to extend their grip into the Central Plains, and their next target is Yanfu Town. Yi and Mowen need to investigate. You've likely visited this place by now - it has several early-game side quests - but if not, you'll find Yanfu Town to the northeast of Wutong Village.

There's a cut scene upon entering the town, and Mowen will note that the Beggars' Sect headquarters is in the southeast of Yanfu Town. Travel east from the entrance, past the inn, and you'll find a secondary area. There's a house on the south side of this area that you can access by some stairs. Go down the stairs to trigger another cut scene...

... and a battle. Fortunately, all you're fighting is a Xhuanhuo Cult Strongman and two Xuanhuo Cult Disciples. They won't stand a chance against your party. The remaining Beggars' Sect member will tell you to hurry to Sandalwood Forest and save his leader.

Leave Yanfu Town and travel east. There's a bridge ahead, and on the other side, a bit further east, you'll see the misty lake in the middle of Sandalwood Forest.

Sandalwood Forest - Enemies

  • Beekeeper
  • Forest Ranger
  • Wasp
  • Weasel
Sandalwood Forest - Drops
  • Brocade
  • Buguzhi
  • Celestial Garment
  • Chuanxiong
  • Coldiron Knuckle
  • Demon Conqueror
  • Dihuang
  • Fanyang Straw Hat
  • Featherless Arrow
  • Fine Hide
  • Fine Raw Meat
  • Gouqi
  • Jadeite Guanyin
  • Linen
  • Satin
  • Silverlight Saber
  • Tiger Claws Boots
  • White Tiger Sword

After a quick reunion with an old... friend... at the entrance, you'll be free to explore Sandalwood Forest. It isn't enormous, and you can easily avoid most of the enemies if you'd rather not fight. You can find the following things of interest while poking around:

  • You can harvest Jade Ore, Gouki, Zhennan Wood, Honghua
  • There's a unique enemy named Beekeeper in the north of the Sandalwood Forest. He'll drop some superior items if you can defeat him. (Not difficult.)
  • There's a fishing spot to the east of Beekeeper.

There's not a ton to see, in other words. Head east of the entrance and you'll hit a cut scene. Some nasty customers are waiting.

The Villains

Man, these guys just don't know when to quit. The bigwigs of Villain Valley have returned, and thanks to a few choice words from Mowen they're eager to fight. They consist of the following three thugs:

  • Sha Quangu, a polearm user who uses a lot of AOE attacks
  • Du Biao, the Gusu City creep with hidden weapons who will often Poison characters
  • Bao Min, the hefty bruiser with the polearm who also likes AOE attacks
If Mowen wasn't already in your party he'll shove his way in now, giving you (potentially) six party members against their three. That should be more than enough to overwhelming Quangu, Biao, and Min, who aren't likely to be a whole lot stronger than your party by now. So long as you concentrate on them one-at-a-time, as well as avoid clumping up your characters too much, you'll be fine. Incapacitate comes up a lot in this battle, so consider bringing in your long-range fighters.

You'll receive several high-quality items for defeating the three villains. (My notable acquisitions were the Unity Polearm Technique and Ensnaring Nails manuals, but your results may differ.) An important cut scene follows the battle, and by the time the story gives you control again you'll receive another enhancement to Yi's Wind and Cloud Method.
